Introduction

Your follow-up appointment for your cataract surgery will be carried out in an accredited community optometry practice.  This is usually the optometry practice which referred you for your surgery.  If the practice is not accredited to provide the service, you can choose another accredited optician on the list.  You will agree the chosen practice with us before leaving hospital.

How and when

  • The practice you have chosen will contact you to book an appointment.
  • Your follow-up will be carried out 4 - 6 weeks from your surgery date, by which time you should have finished the course of eyedrops.

What will happen at my post-operative check up with the optometrist?

The optometrist will check your vision and examine the operated eye to make sure the eye is settling down as we would expect.  They will also perform a sight test and advise you about the type of glasses you may need following your surgery.

There is NO charge for this post op appointment.

What will happen after my post-operative check up with the optometrist?

Following the appointment, if everything has settled down and no further treatment is required, you will be discharged.  Alternatively, you may be referred to have cataract surgery on your other eye.  In the unlikely event there is a complication you will be referred to hospital to be seen by a specialist.
