What is DPOP?

The Digital Post-Op Pathway or DPOP is a way that we can monitor your outcome after your injection. You will be able to answer and send information and update us about your symptoms, like pain, this means you may not need to come back to the hospital unless you need to.

Who can use DPOP?

Any patient who has had an injection to their lumbar spine and has signed up to MyFrimleyHealth Record – our dedicated app that offers you the ability to see your medical records and share messages with the team looking after you.

Key features of a digital post-op pathway:

  1. Patient self-reporting: You can input data like your pain levels, change in your symptoms.
  2. Remote monitoring: Healthcare teams can see your responses and comments as you make them, so we can respond quickly without waiting for a clinic appointment.
  3. Personalised care plans: The service creates your customized post-operative outcomes to help see if you want further treatment.
  4. Uses an app to manage your care: Using the app allows us to keep track of how you have done after your injection after leaving hospital. You don’t need to come back unless necessary. Based on what you want – you will decide whether you want further treatment and if you need to come back to discuss this with us.

Where can I access the DPOP?

You can access the DPOP through MyFrimleyHealth Record via your phone, laptop or computer. It is available for free on iOS and the Android App store. Ask your clinician for information.

When will I be able to access the DPOP?

After your injection we will want to know if it has helped and whether it has worked. We will send you a list of questions to answer which will guide further plans. We send these questions through the app.

You will receive a notification through MyFrimleyHealth Record to fill a questionnaire – please make sure that your app notifications are turned ON to receive this. Please complete the questions – it allows us to plan your care. If you do not answer the questions, we assume that you are feeling better and do not need any more treatment and will contact us if things get worse.

The personalised questionnaire will focus on the following:

•    What you pain feels like
•    What you can and cannot do
•    Whether the improvement is good enough
•    Whether you feel you need further treatment

Why is the DPOP important?

Benefits of a digital post-op pathway:

  1. Improved patient experience: Reduce unnecessary hospital visits. This frees time for those patients who need a face to face discussion with the doctor – you only come if you need to.
  2. Good collection of important information: Monitoring to understand if the injection has helped.
  3. Reduced healthcare costs: Saves clinician time which can be used to see and treat other patients, you save on transport costs.
  4. Improved care coordination: All the hospital healthcare team will all be able to see your outcome in one easy place.
