If you have a diagnosis of bowel cancer

After initial operation/treatment, you will be followed up for a period of 5 years with yearly CT scans, blood tests and, where appropriate, regular colonoscopies. This will all be explained to you fully when you attend your outpatient appointments.

Genetic counselling/screening is available where appropriate and will be discussed with you if necessary (where there is a family history of bowel disease or if your age indicates a need).

Multidisciplinary Team Meetings

The Multidisciplinary Team is a group of experts who meet together to decide on, and all contribute to, the management of a given individual patient.

In addition, they may sometimes be required to work together to deliver certain treatment procedures.

Your Multidisciplinary Team meets weekly to discuss individual / complicated patient pathways and consists of Surgeons, Oncologists, Radiologists, Histopathologists, Nurse Specialists and Palliative Care Specialists.

Should you need to contact a member of your Multidisciplinary Team at any time, please contact your Key Worker in the first instance; they will liaise with the relevant personnel on your behalf and communicate the outcome to you.
