Who are Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS)?
Clinical Nurse Specialists in Uro-Oncology are specialists in urology cancer care and they support patients with suspected and confirmed urology cancers.
They are involved at every step of patients’ care during diagnosis, treatment and follow-up.
Clinical Nurse Specialists work closely with different Healthcare Professionals to maximise the independence, dignity and quality of life of people suffering from cancer.
Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT)
Clinical Nurse Specialists, Doctors and other Healthcare Professionals form a Multi-Disciplinary Team. The role of the MDT is to review all patients as well as their scans and test results and plan the most effective treatment. You will be informed of the recommendations from the MDT meetings in your follow-up appointment, where you will be able to gain more information to help you make an informed decision regarding your care.
Do I have a Key Worker?
You may meet your CNS on your appointments with the doctor in the outpatients department or on the ward, if you have been admitted to the hospital. Going through diagnosis and treatment can be a challenging time and it may be useful to have someone to guide you through this difficult process or signpost you to other support teams. This person is called a Key Worker.
