Advice after your nerve block for surgery
On this page…
As part of your treatment, you have received a sedative drug whilst in the Emergency Department. This is usually given so that it is more comfortable for you to have a painful or unpleasant procedure carried out.
Sedation is safe with very few side effects.
It is normal to not recall events during sedation. This medication may also impair your judgment for up to 24 hours.
The following are a few Do’s and Dont’s
Do:
- You must have someone to take you home
- You should have a responsible adult looking after you for 24 hours
- You may feel sick. Drink plenty of fluids and eat a light diet for 24 hours
- Rest
Don’t:
- Do not drive any vehicles, or ride a bicycle
- Do not drink alcohol
- Do not sign any legally binding documents or make important decisions
- Do not operate machinery
- Do not care for dependent adults or children without responsible help
