Introduction

The Neurology Integrated multi-disciplinary team (MDT) is a team of neurologist, specialist nurses, occupational therapists and psychologists with skills and experience specifically within neurology. We also have access to refer on to neuro physiotherapists, speech and language therapists and dieticians.
The aim of the service is to provide pro-active, supportive interventions, which inform and empower individuals to manage their own health and wellbeing.
The Occupational Therapists (OT) will assess how your neurological condition is impacting your ability to manage activities of daily living (ADLs). They work closely with the MDT to provide rehabilitation and individualised treatment plans.

Conditions we treat

We treat the following conditions so long as there are rehabilitation needs or specific neurological needs that cannot be met by other community services:

  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
  • Parkinson’s Disease (PD)
  • Epilepsy
  • Migraines
  • Acquired brain injuries e.g.Guillain-barre syndrome, brain tumours, traumatic brain injury, encephalitis

During your first appointment an initial assessment will be completed. Your OT will talk to you about your ability to carry out your day to day activities and discuss how your neurological symptoms are affecting your ability to carry out your ADLs. This could include, upper limb rehab, cognitive assessment and treatment, fatigue management education and strategies, vocational rehab and more. They will help you to identify realistic and achievable goals for therapy and put a plan in place to achieve these.
