The outside of the new emergancy assessment centre at Wexham Park HospitalHealthcare professionals are being offered a first look behind the doors of one of the newest and best emergency centres in the country.

Wexham Park Hospital in Slough is holding a recruitment day on Saturday 17 November to showcase nursing opportunities at its unique £49m emergency assessment centre (EAC).

The four-storey building is almost complete and will start receiving patients in the spring.

It will bring the emergency department, ambulatory care and surgical and medical assessment centres together under one roof as new treatment pathways are introduced across the hospital and wider healthcare system.

Students, newly qualified and experienced nurses attending the recruitment event can receive guided preview tours of the EAC and meet senior staff.

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Wexham Park, will be conducting interviews on the day and even making on-the-spot job offers.

Emergency department matron James Rolfe said: “The EAC is the biggest single investment in Wexham Park since the hospital was built more than half a century ago.

“It is a state-of-the-art facility designed by clinicians with patient care at its heart.

“We don’t believe there will be a more exciting or better place to work and progress in the NHS and we can’t wait to show people around.”

The new emergency department will be about one-third larger than Wexham Park’s current facility, occupying the entire ground floor of the building.

The floors above will house specialist assessment units, ensuring patients are diagnosed and treated swiftly and safely.

New recruits to Frimley Health will join one of the most motivated and engaged hospital workforces in the NHS, according to the 2017 NHS staff survey.

People working at the Trust, which also runs Heatherwood Hospital in Ascot, Berkshire, and Frimley Park Hospital near Camberley, Surrey, rated their job satisfaction and motivation at work among the top 20% of all NHS hospital employees.

The Trust offers a structured career path and nurses are supported to progress and gain further qualifications. Tailored individual development plans mean staff can follow the path they choose – whether that’s pursuing current interests or branching off into a whole new field.

James said: “The Frimley Health team is one of the biggest and best of its kind in England.

“If you are a nurse looking for a change or you’re keen to develop your career, we urge you to come along to our recruitment day on Saturday and learn about the fantastic opportunities Wexham Park Hospital can offer.”

Potential recruits should head to the hospital’s postgraduate medical centre on Saturday 17 November between 9.30am and 12.30pm. From there they will be taken on tours of the emergency assessment centre.
