Frimley Health's paediatric allergy and respiratory team (PART) has been raising awareness of the rise in asthma attacks linked to the start of the school year.

The team joined the national #askaboutasthma campaign to highlight the importance of getting the right asthma care.

By sharing learning, resources and key information, the campaign aimed to help even more children and young people to ask about asthma and get the right care in place.

The Frimley Health team visited leisure centres in Camberley, Windsor and Slough to speak to families of children attending swimming lessons.

The key messages included:

  • Everyone should have an asthma review every year
  • Inhaler technique should always be checked and a spacer always be used for aerosol inhalers, no matter how old you are
  • Everyone should have an asthma action plan in place
  • Air pollution can impact control of symptoms

The PACT team said that by working together to educate children and families, they hoped to reduce hospital attendances due to asthma and prevent any asthma fatalities.
