Radio Frimley Park has received its award after striking gold at the Hospital Broadcasting Association (HBA) Awards.

The station received the accolade in the Best Speech Package category.

To achieve the gold award, the team had to provide an extract from their programming to demonstrate their originality, high production and presentational quality alongside proof of listener engagement.

Ed Mayne (pictured left), a trustee and former chair of the station who compiled the winning entry, which included a story of how the Beatles came to perform in Aldershot, was delighted.

Judges said they “loved the use of audio in this entry – with great guests, telling a fascinating story that was very well told”. They went on to comment that the entry was “what speech radio is all about”.

Frank Chambers, trustee at Radio Frimley Park, said: “Judged by our peers and also radio industry professionals, it's a great accolade and highly motivational to have our work recognised in this way.”

Radio Frimley Park couldn’t attend the awards ceremony in March but Nigel Dallard, honorary secretary of the HBA, recently made a special visit to the studios to present the award and accompanying certificate to Ed.
