Final plans on show to rebuild Heatherwood Hospital

Apollo Ward, Heatherwood Hospital, SL5 8AA

Thursday 18 May, 2017, 3pm-7 pm

3pm Members of the public are invited to Heatherwood Hospital to view the latest rebuilding plans that will secure its future.

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the hospital in Ascot, wants to invest in a new £90m hospital on the Heatherwood site.

On Thursday 18 May, key members of the hospital and development team will be on hand to showcase the plans to visitors.

They include a new state of the art building in what is currently part of the woodland on the site, and the sale of land for housing. This sale will make the project possible by part-funding the cost of the new hospital and allowing the current hospital to run until the new one is ready. The hospital’s woodland setting would also bring added benefit to recovering patients.

Frimley Health has made a number of alterations to its original plans following feedback from well-attended public health events held at Ascot Racecourse last year and from other consultations with neighbours and affected parties.

Next week’s event will be held in the Apollo Ward at Heatherwood Hospital (London Road, Ascot, SL5 8AA) between 3pm and 7pm on 18 May. There is no need to book – just turn up. Refreshments are available and parking will be free for visitors during this time.

It will be a last opportunity for the community to see and hear about the final plans before they go to councillors from the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead for a decision.

If approved, the new hospital will include six operating theatres, 40 inpatient beds plus private patient spaces and day case and endoscopy facilities. There will be enhanced diagnostic and outpatient services and room for a primary care hub for the area.

It will not be possible to continue using the current buildings on site for much longer as they are unaffordable to maintain and not configured to meet modern standards. Therefore the trust believes its plans are the only realistic way of securing fantastic hospital services in Ascot for future generations.

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust also runs Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey and Wexham Park Hospital, near Slough, along with satellite services in four counties.
