From Monday 8th June 2026, we ask that all intravenous and vascular access service referrals for Frimley Park Hospital are submitted via the designated eRS service detailed below and not via email. There is no change to the existing referral processes for Wexham Park Hospital (WPH), which is via Medical SDEC.

The DXS IVAS (Intravenous and Vascular Access Services) referral form called ‘Ferinject Infusion Service at Frimley Park Hospital (FPH) Community Referral for Treatment’ has been updated to include these eRS details, as well as inclusion and exclusion criteria. The form can be found in the following location on DXS/Frimley Health and Care / Iron Transfusion Landing page or via the following search terms: FHC1061 and Iron. This information has also been transferred to Ardens for Bucks practices. 

Inclusion and exclusion criteria (as detailed on the DXS referral form and in the eRS directory of service). 
Tests required (must be within the last 4 weeks): Hb (haemoglobin), ferritin, serum iron, transferrin, transferrin saturation. 

Appropriate (inclusion criteria): 

  • Direct GP referral to IVAS for Iron infusion is only permitted for known causes of iron deficiency

Inappropriate (exclusion criteria): 

  • All pregnancy patients require a referral to maternity - email: fhft.antenatalclinicfph.midwives@nhs.net
  • Under 16 years of age - refer via paediatrics 
  • HB of 69 or below would require referral to Medical SDEC or the Emergency Department  
  • Patients on antibiotics 
  • Other haematological disorders 
  • No confirmed cause 
  • Known allergy to oral iron 
  • Previous recorded allergy to IV iron 
Patients attending the IV therapy unit are usually asked to come alone to help protect vulnerable patients and manage limited space, although exceptions can be made for specific support needs. Babies under 4 weeks may attend if necessary, but alternative childcare should be arranged for older children.
