Oral and maxillofacial surgery is the surgical specialty concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the mouth, jaws, face and neck.
This includes facial injuries, mouth and neck cancers, salivary gland diseases, facial disproportion, facial pain, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, impacted teeth, cysts and tumours of the jaws as well as numerous problems affecting the oral cavity such as mouth ulcers, ‘lumps and bumps’, white patches and infections.
Common procedures range from relatively minor tooth and bone surgery through to complex major head and neck surgery. They cover:
- Aesthetics
- Facial deformity
- Oncology and reconstruction
- Oral, dentoalveolar and TMJ surgery.
- Salivary gland surgery
