New restaurant opens at Wexham

Wexham Park Hospital’s main restaurant is now open following a major refit. A new service area, fresh cook facility, hot beverage station, cold snack, salad and sandwich section were part of the £390,000 refurbishment. Soft seating areas, fresh décor, new lighting and windows also formed part of the overhaul. It follows catering services at Wexham and Heatherwood in Ascot being brought in house on February 1, 2017. All 130 catering staff transferred from previous contractor Sodexo to Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. The main restaurant, used by staff and visitors, has now been renamed the Courtyard Restaurant.

Sir Andrew tops list of NHS bosses

Trust chief executive Sir Andrew Morris heads the annual list of top leaders of NHS trusts, published this week by health management journal the HSJ. He has been rated in the top 10 since the list was first compiled in 2014, and was ranked fourth last year. This is the first time he has topped the list of 50.

Frimley Health has played a key role in a breakthrough study that could revolutionise the way prostate cancer is detected. Frimley Park Hospital contributed to research which found that MRI scans are twice as effective as traditional biopsies at spotting the cancers. The technique could potentially save the lives of thousands of men every year.

Catering overhaul as service back in house

Wexham Park Hospital's main restaurant closes from Wednesday 1 to Monday 13 February for refurbishment as catering services are brought in house at the Slough hospital. From 1 February 2017 Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, which runs services at Wexham Park and sister hospitals Heatherwood in Ascot and Frimley Park near Camberley, will be taking over the management of patient and public catering. The revamped restaurant, used by staff and visitors, will offer new cook to order facilities, sandwiches, fresh salads, hot meals and stir fries.

A big step for emergency department

Plans to build a new emergency department (ED) and assessment centre at Wexham Park Hospital have won the backing of local planners. Patients in Slough and surrounding areas are now a step closer to a new £49m building incorporating a number of emergency care and assessment wards. The four storey building will have a state of the art A&E on the ground floor including 36 fully equipped separate rooms for the sickest patients, minor injuries and children’s A&E.

Students enjoy a Taste of Frimley

Frimley Park Hospital welcomed about 100 students to its latest Taste of Frimley careers night. The teenagers, from schools and colleges across the local area, were given an insight into what it's like to work at the hospital and the wide range of roles available. They were among 200 students who had applied for places at the event, having all expressed an interest in pursuing a medical career.

Appeal smashes target

An appeal to raise £1.5m to create a better breast care service for local patients has smashed its target. The news was announced at a thank you event three years after the Frimley Park Hospital Breast Care Appeal was launched with the aim of bringing the latest diagnostic equipment and a dedicated unit for breast cancer patients.
