The main restaurant at Wexham Park Hospital closes on Wednesday 1 February for refurbishment as catering services are brought in house at the Slough hospital.

From 1 February 2017 Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, which runs services at Wexham Park and sister hospitals Heatherwood in Ascot and Frimley Park near Camberley, will be taking over the management of patient and public catering.

The main restaurant at Wexham, used by staff and visitors, will undergo a revamp before reopening on Monday 13 February. It will offer a new cook to order facility, sandwiches, fresh salads, and stir fries.

At Wexham Park and Heatherwood, catering has been contracted to Sodexo in recent years. All 130 catering staff are transferring to Frimley Health with terms and conditions protected under a TUPE - Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) – agreement.

Janet King, director of HR and corporate services, said: “We have had good relationship with Sodexo for many years as they have provided our catering services at Wexham and Heatherwood.

“But ever since Frimley Health took over managing Wexham Park and Heatherwood in 2014 we said we wanted to work towards bringing certain contracted services, including catering, back in house.

“This is a model that has worked very well at Frimley Park Hospital, where we receive excellent feedback from patients and visitors. Running catering ourselves at Wexham and Heatherwood will give us the chance to regularly review our services and respond quickly to needs.

“We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused by the closure of our main public and staff restaurant but we hope everyone will soon see the benefits of our investment.” 

The main restaurant will be renamed the Courtyard Restaurant when it opens on Wednesday 15 February. It will have an overhaul that includes new windows, décor, soft seating and lighting.

There are plenty of other places at Wexham for meals and refreshment, including The Crossroads Café near the Tower Block, Café Glades off main reception, Costa Coffee and the RVS shop in the main entrance.

At Heatherwood Hospital a mobile hot beverage facility will be available while the café in main reception undergoes a revamp, reopening on Monday 6 February.
