Bogdan PopescuFrimley Health staff member Bogdan Popescu has been volunteering his personal time to help ease some of the pressures on his frontline colleagues.

The service manager for Trauma & Orthopaedics at Frimley Park is one of many colleagues who have been providing ward or logistical support as part of the Trust’s Ward Ambassadors programme.

He has helped ward staff at weekends by sourcing and delivering supplies of equipment and PPE and by stocking and tidying storerooms, among other duties.

He has also been helping to develop ideas that could improve the hospital experiences of the people we care for.

Bogdan, who has himself recovered from Covid-19, said: “Any time we can give to help our clinical staff with administrative or logistical tasks is time gained for them to focus on caring for our patients.

“And if, in the end, a patient receives better care indirectly because of a few small things I have done, then that for me is mission accomplished. We can all play a part in a situation like this pandemic.”

Bogdan said he is ready to volunteer his time again, as our hospitals remain under significant pressure.

He said: “We are not out of the woods yet and if I can do anything to help I will. My wife and I have had Covid, and although we recovered at home the pain, exhaustion and lack of support made us feel afraid and powerless. So that has given me even more energy to help staff who are there for our patients.”
