Frimley Park Hospital brought onto the national New Hospital Programme due to the presence of unsafe concrete (RAAC) within the hospital.

Initial searches take place for sites and public engagement undertaken to inform a site evaluation criteria.

Engagement with patients, staff, residents and stakeholders takes place. Around 4,000 people share views on priorities and concerns. Key feedback: accessibility, proximity to Frimley Park Hospital, space for future growth, minimising disruption, deliverability within realistic timescales, and environmental impact.

Independent analysis identifies consistent themes from public feedback. Insights combined with clinical advice, technical assessments and planning constraints. A clear set of site selection criteria  agreed (size, availability, deliverability, access, environmental impact, timescales, value for money).

18 potential sites explored across the local area.
Sites ruled out for reasons including: insufficient size, lack of availability, environmental constraints, planning risks, aviation restrictions, and complex land ownership.
Rebuilding on or next to the current site was also discounted due to heritage constraints, reliance on Ministry of Defence land, and significant delivery risks.
Ongoing market review confirmed no additional viable sites emerged.

Confirmed by the government to be on ‘Wave 1’, which means the highest priority, in the national new hospital programme.

Only one site meeting all requirements for size, access, deliverability, environmental feasibility, timescales (including government RAAC removal deadlines), and value for money.

National and independent approval received on the Trust’s site selection process.
