Why we need to change
A modern hospital designed for the future
The proposed hospital would be built using national “Hospital 2.0” design standards.
Hospital 2.0 is a national approach to designing modern hospitals so they better support today’s care and can adapt for the future. For patients, this means hospitals that are easier to move around, safer, and designed around privacy and dignity, such as more single rooms and layouts that reduce infection risk.
Hospital 2.0 hospitals are also designed with digital technology built in from the start, helping staff monitor care more effectively and making it easier for patients to access information and services. Importantly, these hospitals are built to be flexible, so they can change as healthcare, technology and patient needs evolve over time.
Key features
- Single patient rooms for improved privacy and infection control
- Clear, efficient layouts to improve patient flow
- Modern digital infrastructure built in from the start
- Flexible design to adapt as needs change
What the hospital will be used for
The hospital will focus on care that can only be delivered in an acute setting, including:
- Emergency and urgent care
- Complex surgery
- Specialist inpatient services
Care delivered elsewhere
Routine and planned care would increasingly be provided:
- Closer to home
- In community settings
- At other hospital sites
This would help improve access and reduce pressure on the main hospital.
