We want to let our patients and their families know about a global supply issue affecting bone cement used in many orthopaedic procedures, including joint replacement surgery.

This shortage is impacting all NHS hospital trusts across the country, including Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust.

How we are responding

Our teams are working hard to minimise disruption to patient care. We are:

  • Following national NHS guidance to ensure all trauma and urgent orthopaedic care can continue safely.
  • Exploring alternative suppliers wherever possible.
  • Prioritising patients according to their clinical need over the coming weeks.

What this means for patients

Unfortunately, this global issue may mean some planned orthopaedic procedures need to be delayed.
We understand how disappointing and worrying this may be, especially for those who have already waited a long time for surgery. We are sorry for the uncertainty and inconvenience this may cause.

Please be assured that we will:

  • Contact any patients whose care is affected by this national supply problem.
  • Do everything we can to minimise further delays.

You do not need to call us

Patients do not need to contact our hospitals or booking teams. If your procedure is affected, we will get in touch with you directly with the information you need.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this challenging situation.
