We are entering the next exciting phase of our new hospital programme at Frimley Health.

Having updated our clinical, people, digital and estates strategies in 2025, we have recently submitted the first of three business cases for our new hospital to the government. We are now turning our attention to developing a detailed model of care across all our sites and our system which will also inform our new hospital designs. This work is about much more than a new building — it’s about how we will deliver care in the future for all our locations.

Building on progress made, in this next phase we are developing clinical models to support our strategic priorities and align with the NHS 10 Year Plan, with a focus on expanding community-based care, while also designing a new hospital shaped by our transformation plans.

As our work ramps up, it is very important to us that staff, patients and the local community are properly informed and involved with our plans as we develop them.

To support this, we have developed a plan that we are calling our ‘Engagement Cycle’, which is a guide for how we listen, engage and involve throughout our new hospital programme including input into shaping our new models of care. It commits to a regular, two-way dialogue with our staff and communities to help improve the quality of our decisions and ultimately support better patient care and experience in the future.

Kirk Ward, Director of Communications and Engagement at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, said:

"We are committed to open and transparent engagement about future models of care and our new Frimley Park Hospital. We want people to feel valued, listened to and well informed. People should feel able to contribute ideas or feedback if they want to and know that their views are taken seriously.

“Engagement is already informing how we communicate about our new hospital and how we think about the future of care. We recently commissioned Healthwatch to produce an independent report on co-designing our communications with seldom heard communities. These insights have shaped our work and help ensure the voice of local people remain at the heart of all our plans.

“Our new Engagement Cycle is our plan that sets out how we will continue to engage with our staff, patients and local communities throughout our new hospital programme and we want your feedback and input into it as it develops."

This approach recognises that meaningful engagement is essential to shaping how care will be delivered across Frimley Health, not just the design of a new hospital.

The engagement cycle focuses on four areas:

  1. Analyse and plan: We will regularly encourage advice and challenge on our plans, and identify opportunities to involve staff, stakeholders and local communities in meaningful ways.
  2. Co-design and scrutinise: Where appropriate, we will adopt a co-design approach, working collaboratively with patients, staff, public representatives, and community leaders to shape proposals before they are finished.
  3. Deliver and engage: We will regularly provide updates on the programme’s progress, even if there is no key milestone or activity to highlight.
  4. Review, learn and improve: Feedback we receive will help shape and inform plans, decision-making and proposals, and allow us to consider actions to address concerns that are raised.

Our draft plan is available to review.

As we increase the pace and frequency of our communications, there will be regular opportunities for staff, patients and local communities to hear updates, share views and help shape the future of care at Frimley Health.
