Professional background

Dr Anika Wijewardane is a Consultant Acute Physician and Stroke Physician and Clinical Director for Urgent and Emergency Care at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust.

Clinically, she works across acute medicine and stroke services, including the Acute Medical Unit, Same Day Emergency Care and the Hyperacute Stroke Unit. She has led improvements in Acute Medicine Services at Frimley, delivering measurable improvements in patient flow, length of stay, multidisciplinary working and overall system performance. Her work has received regional and national recognition as an example of clinically led service improvement.

Alongside her Trust role, Dr Wijewardane is a National Clinical Advisor for the GIRFT Urgent and Emergency Care Improvement Programme and the England Representative for the Society for Acute Medicine, contributing to national policy and improvements in urgent and emergency care services.

Dr Wijewardane is regular speaker on urgent and emergency care transformation, leadership and operational improvement. She is passionate about service transformation, organisational flow and developing high-performing, collaborative teams. She is committed to creating sustainable services that deliver high-quality care for patients while enabling staff to thrive.
