Professional background
Dr Franklin is a Radiation Oncologist specialising in the treatment of gynaecological cancers, including:
- Ovarian cancer
- Endometrial cancer
- Cervical cancer
- Vulval cancer
- Vaginal cancer
His practice incorporates both chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment modalities. He has particular expertise in brachytherapy, an advanced technique that delivers high doses of radiation directly to cervical cancers, maximising treatment effectiveness while minimising impact on surrounding healthy tissues.
He maintains a special interest in carcinoma of unknown primary (CUP), where a cancer is found but the origin site cannot be immediately identified. This complex area requires comprehensive investigation and multidisciplinary collaboration.
As a member of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), he works closely with colleagues across various specialties to review and develop optimal treatment plans for patients with complex cancer presentations.
Research interests
- Using Artificial intelligence in treating cervical & endometrial CA.
- Role of brachytherapy in recurrent endometrial & cervical CA.
- Papillon low contact RT for rectal CA (sphincter preservation).
- Improving patient experience during radiotherapy such as novel anaesthetics in brachytherapy.
- Use of diagnostic CT scans to streamline palliative radiotherapy without need to visit centre for another scan.
