Senior sister retires after 50 years in nursing
The emergency department ‘family’ at Wexham Park Hospital came together this week to mark the retirement of one of their much-loved senior nurses. Susie Manikam has been a nurse for almost 50 years, after qualifying in the early 1970s shortly after she moved to the UK from Malaysia.

Neil Dardis, Chief Executive of Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust will be leaving in the spring to take up a new role overseas. After six years at the Trust and over 25 years in the NHS, Neil has been invited to take on a senior leadership role in the State of Qatar.

Royal reception for international staff
Two Frimley Health colleagues had an opportunity to meet the King during a Buckingham Palace reception celebrating internationally educated nurses and midwives. Alvin Nierva, matron for education, and Nana Arko, a safeguarding and perinatal mental health midwife, were nominated to attend by Trust and NHS South-East colleagues.
New Urgent Care Centre in Slough
We are excited to announce our new Slough Urgent Care Centre is now open for anyone with a minor illness who needs same-day treatment. The Slough Urgent Care Centre has been launched in addition to existing healthcare services in and around Slough, including pharmacy, GP, and our hospital emergency department and in partnership with the Frimley Health and Care integrated care system.
Frimley Park opens dedicated bereavement suite
Frimley Park Hospital’s first dedicated bereavement suite has officially opened. Situated to the left of the main hospital entrance, just before reception, the suite is ‘home’ to the hospital’s bereavement team who coordinate the care of our patients after their death and support families through the bereavement process. This new suite contains an office where doctors and medical examiners can work but, most importantly, there is also a dedicated room where relatives can discuss the loss of their loved one in a private and calm setting.
Nurse starts Nightingale programme
ITU matron at Wexham Park, Ruramai Chidzambwa, has embarked on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity after being awarded a place on the Florence Nightingale Foundation’s (FNF) Leadership scholarship. The FNF’s leadership programmes are only awarded to a small number of nurses or midwives in England each year and are described as ‘transformational’ by those selected to attend.
Heart-shaped cushions made with love
Nurses have paid tribute to Louise Smith, whose sewing talents and creative skills have produced more than 2,000 heart cushions and drain bags to help breast cancer patients at Frimley Park Hospital.
