Happy 70th birthday NHS!
Staff from across Frimley Health’s hospitals and satellite sites celebrated the 70th anniversary of the NHS in style last weekend. They gathered at Easthampstead Park near Bracknell on Sunday 8 July for a fun-filled extravaganza with their family and friends, laid on for them by the trust.
Brave Luke's £3,800 hospital boost
The family and friends of an 11-year-old boy undergoing treatment for a rare cancer have raised almost £3,800 for the Wexham Park Hospital teams caring for him.
New nursing role at trust sparks interest
The first tranche of training for a new kind of nursing role at Frimley Health has begun. In time there will be some 150-200 nursing associates in the trust, helping to ensure the right skill mix of nursing staff in clinical areas for the best patient care. It is one of the ways the trust is addressing a national shortage of registered nurses available to the NHS.
Minister sees NHS and fire joint working
Health Minister Caroline Dinenage heard how NHS and fire service staff are working together in new ways to care for patients when she visited a community care team in Hampshire. Nurses and health staff in Farnborough have found new ways of caring for people in their own homes more effectively by helping each other.
Taking a hike for stroke patients
Staff from Frimley Park Hospital, along with their supporters, are taking on the Thames Path walk on 23 June to raise money for the hospital charity’s Stroke Appeal. Six teams are each going to walk a 30-mile section of the route, covering a total of 184 miles from the source of the Thames to the Thames Barrier. Each team has pledged to raise at least £1,000 in sponsorship for the Appeal.
Frimley Health award winner
Members of Frimley Health’s respiratory teams were given a high profile at the national Association of Respiratory Nurse Specialists (ARNS) conference on 4 and 5 May. Joanne King (Jo) was the recipient of the conference’s Respiratory Nurse Leader 2018 award, one of four award categories at the event held at the Hilton Hotel in Reading.
Run Wexham 2018
Runners of all abilities are preparing to tread new ground as they raise money to help some of the most seriously ill children at Wexham Park Hospital. The annual Run Wexham trail race and family fun run, organised by the Frimley Health Charity, takes place on Sunday 8 July in aid of the Children's Critical Care Appeal.
Samaritans support emergency care at Wexham
Volunteers from Slough Samaritans have begun working alongside doctors and nurses in Wexham Park Hospital’s emergency department (ED) to offer support to patients and staff. The Samaritan volunteers are on hand fortnightly on Monday evenings to provide emotional support and comfort to anyone who needs it.

Staff don pyjamas for 'End PJ paralysis' campaign
Colleagues across Frimley Health’s hospitals swapped their uniforms for pyjamas this week to encourage patients out of bed and into their own clothes. Staff at Frimley Park, Heatherwood and Wexham Park hospitals are supporting the national 70-day ‘End PJ paralysis’ campaign, launched by the chief nursing officer for England, Professor Jane Cummings.
