On 14 October, Frimley Health is proud to celebrate Allied Health Professions (AHP) Day and recognise the valuable contribution Allied Health Professionals make to the health and wellbeing of our communities.

While many people may not be familiar with the term "Allied Health Professional", they are likely to have benefited from the care, expertise and support of an AHP at some point in their lives.

AHPs represent 14 professions, including occupational therapists, physiotherapists, radiographers, speech and language therapists, dietitians, podiatrists, orthoptists, operating department practitioners and paramedics who work in our Trust. Together, they support people of all ages to stay healthy, recover from illness and injury, manage long-term conditions and live as independently as possible.

Putting People First

At the heart of AHP practice is a commitment to person-centred care. AHPs work in partnership with patients, families and carers to understand what matters most to them and help them achieve their goals.

Whether supporting someone to regain their independence following a hospital stay, helping a child develop communication skills, or enabling a person to return to work after injury, AHPs focus on helping people live the lives they want to lead.

Optimising Care Across the Patient Journey

AHPs play a vital role throughout the healthcare journey, from prevention and early intervention through to rehabilitation and recovery.

Their expertise helps ensure patients receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time. This not only improves health outcomes but also helps people remain active, independent and connected to their communities wherever possible.

Addressing Health Inequalities

AHPs are key partners in reducing health and care inequalities. They work closely with individuals and communities to improve access to services, provide personalised support and help people overcome barriers that may affect their health and wellbeing.

By understanding the wider factors that influence health, AHPs help ensure care is equitable, inclusive and responsive to the needs of diverse populations across Frimley, Surrey and Berkshire.

Supporting a Sustainable Future

AHPs are helping shape a more sustainable healthcare system through prevention, self-management, digital innovation and community-based models of care.

By helping people stay well, preventing avoidable hospital admissions and supporting care closer to home, AHPs contribute to healthcare services that are both environmentally and clinically sustainable for future generations.

A Strong and Diverse Community

AHP Day is also an opportunity to celebrate the strength, diversity and expertise of the AHP community. Across Frimley Health, AHPs work alongside colleagues from nursing, medicine, midwifery, pharmacy, healthcare science and many other professions to deliver high-quality care for local people.

Together, they are helping transform lives every day through innovation, compassion and clinical excellence.

On AHP Day, we thank all our Allied Health Professionals and support workforce for the outstanding contribution they make to patients, families and communities across Frimley Health. Their dedication, expertise and commitment continue to make a lasting difference to the lives of thousands of people every year.
