Our chest clinic at King Edward VII Hospital in Windsor has inpatient beds at Wexham Park and at Heatherwood in Ascot, and specialist surgery is provided by Harefield Hospital.

We have particular expertise in:

Lung cancer

We have introduced endobronchial ultrasound and indwelling chest drains to improve the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer.

Obstructive sleep apnoea

The department runs a large obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) clinic with our colleagues in the ear, nose and throat (ENT) department. Telephone support is available on Mondays to Friday from 9am to 12 noon on 0300 613 3672

Specialist cystic fibrosis care

We host a specialist (tertiary) adult cystic fibrosis unit at Frimley Park, recognised by the CF Trust. Our unit comprises a multidisciplinary team made up of consultant physicians, clinical nurse specialists, physiotherapists, dieticians and pharmacists. We have a dedicated clinical unit that houses both bespoke outpatient rooms and five en-suite inpatient rooms.

We have a number of collaborative links with the gastroenterology, diabetes, obstetric, surgery, vascular and radiology departments. Our external partners include the transplant team at Papworth Hospital, the gastroenterology and radiology departments at the Hammersmith Hospital and the clinical geneticists at St George’s Hospital.

Tuberculosis

Latent TB (sleeping TB) and new entrant testing

We can diagnose and treat the symptoms of tuberculosis infection, using drug therapy, surgical treatment and supportive care. The Trust has enhanced the management of patients with TB following the appointment of three dedicated nurses and a TB administrator.

The service includes a weekly TB clinic at King Edward VII hospital in Windsor, quicker turnaround of results of specimens due to new advanced equipment in microbiology and faster support for patients with suspected or confirmed TB. We offer screening of family, friends and healthcare professionals who have come into contact with TB and teaching and education to hospital staff, health care professionals and staff working in ‘hard to reach groups’.

There is also a weekly TB clinic at Frimley park hospital offering both a consultant clinic and a nurse led clinic.  All the same services are offered. This serves patients from the Aldershot, Farnborough , Camberley and Sandhurst areas.

Home non-invasive ventilation (NIV) for chronic respiratory failure

We can perform an assessment for home non-invasive ventilation to help relieve the symptoms of respiratory distress. NIV is beneficial for managing a range of acute and chronic respiratory conditions, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, obstructive sleep apnoea, and problems associated with neuromuscular disease and chest wall deformities. The standard equipment supplied for a patient receiving NIV at home includes a portable ventilator with mains lead, ventilator tubing, a face or nose mask and an adjustable headset.
