If you are worried and need help quickly and are:

If you have: 

  • Pain in your tummy 
  • Bleeding from your vagina 
  • Sickness that won’t stop or makes it hard to eat/drink 

Call your GP, or if you can’t get through 111, and ask them to refer you to the Early Pregnancy Unit (EPU). The EPU sometimes accept self-referrals from patients if they have difficulty accessing their GP surgery. Their contact details are in the link above. 

In an emergency, call 111 for advice, go to A&E, or call 999 if it’s life-threatening. 

Call the MAMAS Line on 0300 013 2004 — it’s open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 

Call us straight away if:  

  • you think you might be in labour 
  • your waters break – this may be a steady trickle rather than a gush. If you are leaking fluid and are unsure, please seek help
  • you have bleeding from your vagina 
  • your baby is moving less than usual or their pattern of movement changes
  • you’re worried about your newborn baby - up to 28 days old
  • you have persistent tummy pain that doesn’t go away 
  • you have a bad headache/changes to your vision that won’t go away 
  • you have itching (especially on your hands or feet) 
  • you just feel unwell and not yourself 
  • you have severe sickness and vomiting (hyperemesis) 
If it’s an emergency that’s not about your pregnancy:

If your question is not about your pregnancy (such as ear ache, urine infection), please contact your GP.
