This October, Radio Frimley Park celebrated 50 years of entertaining our patients with music, quizzes and engaging talk.

In operation since 1976, the team marked its 50th anniversary with a celebratory event, and a brand-new digital studio.  Terry Kingham, Chair of Radio Frimley Park, who spoke at the event thanked all those involved.

“When the radio station first went on air in 1976, Concorde had just begun commercial flights, Britain was enduring its famous heatwave, and Steve Jobs had just founded Apple.
“Fifty years later, technologies have changed beyond recognition, but one thing remains exactly the same; people still value a friendly voice, a favourite song, and the dedication of volunteers who care. Thank you all for your continued support, dedication, and commitment to Radio Frimley Park. Together, we really are making a difference.”

Terry also thanked the Trust for all their help and support in moving to a new digital studio which is now fully operational on the ground floor, Blue corridor at Frimley.

Looking ahead, Radio Frimley Park has exciting plans to grow its team, develop its services and reach even more patients. Over the next 12 months, the team will:

  • Help every presenter feel confident using the new technology.
  • Give trainee presenters the skills and experience they need to host regular shows.
  • Welcome more volunteers, including presenters, ward visitors, events team members and team leaders.
  • Recruit a programme controller and an events manager to help shape the station’s future.
  • Bring Radio Frimley Park to more wards and public areas, helping to brighten the hospital experience for even more patients.
