Working as a nurse on G6 (older person short stay unit) at Frimley Park

G6 is an acute frailty ward which opened in September 2017 with an enthusiastic multidisciplinary team including geriatric consultants, registrar, junior doctor, physio, discharge team, OT, social worker and a dedicated nursing team .

All the sisters / charge nurses (and some nurses) are mentorship trained. We can offer you great support throughout your preceptorship if you are newly qualified nurse and overseas nurse. We are supported by the practice development team who are always willing to provide help whenever needed.

As a short stay unit, we receive patients mainly from ED. The ward provides a dedicated facility for assessment, investigation, diagnosis and treatment for older people with frailty.

We aim to maximise independence, prevent deconditioning, minimise hospital stay and ensure safe transfer to the community within 72 hours of admission, for all our patients.

We have received positive feedback from new starters, who have felt supported and included in the team. There is always opportunity to progress yourself with the help of training and guidance provided.
