Working as a nurse on F7 at Frimley Park
F7 is a general surgical ward. We cover all specialities including vascular, upper GI, urology, colorectal and breast. It is a hugely varied ward and you will care for patients from the age of 18 through to 118.
From leg ulcers to bladder irrigation, parenteral nutrition to colostomies, there are huge opportunities to learn and gain experience in surgery. Our patients come from a number of different wards including direct emergency cases from ED, post-operative patients from PACU, transfers from other hospitals for specialist vascular surgery and transfers out of ITU.
There is no doubt that the ward is busy, we face challenges every day and that it takes dedication to do our job, however the satisfaction achieved from making patients feel safe and well cared for as part of a great team makes all the difference.
Team work and communication between us is one of the most important aspects of giving care. We work closely with a large extended team including physiotherapist, occupation therapist, tissue viability nurses, specialist nurses, palliative care and social services to name some
As a new starter on the ward we do our best to offer all the support we can. This allows us to get to know you, your training needs and for you to settle in while not compromising care for the patients. There will always be a more senior nurse around to ask advice and receive support from.
Newly qualified and overseas staff gets the opportunity to learn though the preceptorship program.
Qualified members of staff will be able to access the course for NGT management, parenteral nutrition training, pain study days including PCA’s and epidural and nurse in charge training.
