Working as a nurse on F1 at Frimley Park

F1 is the children’s inpatient ward at Frimley Park Hospital. Of the 26 beds, the ward incorporates a four bedded high dependency unit and recently refurbished eight bedded paediatric assessment unit. There are also two oncology cubicles and a teenage unit which have been recently renovated.

Our care is for patients aged between seven days and 16 years, whose diagnoses encompass a wide variety of conditions. As a multidisciplinary unit we pride ourselves on consistently delivering and maintaining clinical excellence through a team approach and evidence-based practice.

Each new member of staff benefits from an induction programme as well as preceptorship for newly registered nursing staff. The practice development nurse works alongside each new member of staff to ensure competencies are completed to facilitate clinical progression. Additionally each staff member will have a 6 month probation review and annual appraisal to focus on career aspirations as well as continuing professional development. With funding allocated by Health Education England, staff on the ward benefit from studying courses to enhance both their academic and clinical profile; knowledge from which is disseminated to colleagues at regular ward and sisters’ meetings.

If you would like to schedule an informal visit to the ward, please contact Helen Seymour, ward manager or Ellen Duke, ward matron on 01276 604226.
