Working as a nurse on the coronary care unit or ward 4 cardiac stepdown at Wexham Park

Cardiology is an exciting and dynamic area which manages complex cardiac patients requiring monitoring and interventions along with other acute needs. The cardiology multidisciplinary team is passionate about the care provided and strives for excellence; we are as supportive and dedicated to patient care as we are to our staff.

There are a variety of specific internal courses set up for staff to undertake along with a cardiology university accredited course. From the time you start you will work closely with our practice development team looking at the skills and development you need, along with workbooks and a personal development plan, to help enhance your knowledge and evidence your development.

There is a strong senior team that will provide leadership, vison and guidance but will also be there to answer and listen to your concerns and suggestions.

The coronary care unit is fully monitored area, offering invasive and non-invasive monitoring and care, working closely with both the coronary angiography cath lab and ward 4 the cardiac stepdown unit, emergency department and the acute assessment unit.

Ward 4 (cardiac stepdown) is a 24 bedded ward with a 6 chaired day case diuretic service.

The cardiac catheterisation suite consists of 2 theatres and a 6 bed recovery area. The nursing team are part of the wider team working closely with the consultant, radiologist and physio team. There is a development pathway for nurses to become proficient in implantation of reveal devices, cardioversions as well as scrubbing and recovery for procedures.
