Working as a nurse on ward 1 at Wexham Park
Trauma and orthopaedic patients, including electives are cared for on ward 1. We have a dedicated specialist pathway for patients who have a fractured neck of femur (NoF), which ensures best practices are upheld. New starters will receive education surrounding the care of complex elderly patients who have suffered this injury, along with caring for those with anything from sports injuries to spinal injuries.
We have a dynamic trauma team including trauma nurse practitioner, trauma administrator orthopaedic surgeons and anaesthetists, and specialist therapy teams. The ortho geriatrician team works with our MDT to provide an excellent service for this specialist group of patients. The trauma orthopaedic department care for a variety of patient’s conditions and work with multiple specialities around the trust. All patients have the highest quality of care given to them by the whole team; from consultants to housekeepers, delivering patient satisfaction every day.
The ward offers in-house training and support from the practice development sister, ensuring that competencies and education are within current practice. The learning needs we offer as a ward are the orthopaedic course which delivers in depth knowledge in caring for patients with fractures; this course is accredited by the university and is available to staff one year post commencement.
