Working as a nurse on the Christiansen unit at Wexham Park

The Christiansen unit is a busy 16 bedded surgical assessment unit. We predominantly take patients from accident and emergency who are awaiting a surgical assessment. Once the assessment is done they are moved to an appropriate ward or stay with us for the duration. This gives you the opportunity to have the experience of both types of nursing.

We have a competent team and together we manage the ward efficiently. Recruitment and retention is good on the ward and you will be well supported. There is a good management structure in place. We offer preceptorship and the healthcare certificate and ensure that you are well supported with trainings both mandatory and those relevant to the unit. Regular appraisals are also done to monitor progress.

We take pride on the unit for the high standards we maintain in order to give our patients the best experience and adhere strictly to the values of the trust. Last year we were awarded the best ward in the trust to provide the best environment for student nurses  and have also been recognised and awarded a certificate for the ward of the month for infection prevention.

Please note, from 23 February 2019 patients from the Christiansen Unit will move to the new surgical short stay unit in Wexham Park's new emergency assessment centre (EAC).
