Working as a nurse within the antenatal and gynaecology outpatients department at Frimley Park
The antenatal and gynaecology outpatients department provides a centre for patients to be seen in a setting especially for women, this could be via referral form GP or through chose and book (ERS). The department also sees all antenatal patients throughout their pregnancy. The clinic sees both new general gynaecology patients and provides follow up appointments.
The department sees on average 2000 patients a month and comprises of 16 rooms, including two treatment rooms for colposcopy or hysteroscopy outpatient procedures. We have 16 consultants that cover both obstetrics and gynaecology
The department has a large ultrasound unit and the use of a further five rooms to perform pregnancy related scans.
The clinic has specialist nurses in gynae / oncology, colposcopy, gynae / urology, infertility and endometriosis. All these specialties have regular multi-team disciplinary meetings.
The department offers outpatient procedures for colposcopy, myosure and hysteroscopy. This enables our patients to have the procedure in an outpatient environment and prevents in-patient admission and will not require a general anaesthetic.
General nursing students, student midwives and cadet students are allocated to our department to gain an overview of women's health. The students also get an opportunity to attend the early pregnancy unit and emergency gynae clinic on ward F15 to gain added experience of emergency situations.
